Join Our Team!

Working at the Portal means turning purpose into action.

We’re an impact organization that supports at-risk youth with real, relationship-based services — and we’re serious about results.

Every role here contributes to helping young people overcome barriers and build better futures. If you’re ready to do work that matters alongside people who care deeply, we’d love to meet you.

Why Work With Us?

Your Work Matters Here: Every day, your role has a meaningful impact. Whether you're mentoring, advocating, or offering a safe space, you're helping young people build futures filled with hope and possibility.

A Team That Cares: You won’t do this work alone. We’re a supportive, close-knit team that collaborates, checks in, and looks out for each other — because how we treat our staff is just as important as how we support youth.

Grow With Us: Bring your experience, ideas, and whole self to a workplace that values continuous learning. We offer coaching, team-based learning, and opportunities to stretch into new areas.

Training That Sets You Up for Success: We invest in you from day one. You’ll receive in-depth onboarding and ongoing training so you feel confident and capable in your role.

Diverse Perspectives Welcome: We know that lived experience matters. We celebrate the diversity of our team and the youth we support, and are committed to building a workplace rooted in equity, inclusion, and belonging.

We thank all applicants for their interest in The Portal Youth Outreach Association.

We want to acknowledge that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. The “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” cover this territory, which Mi’kmaq WƏlastƏkwiyik (Maliseet) and Passamaquoddy Peoples first signed with the British Crown in 1726. The treaties did not deal with the surrender of lands and resources but recognized Mi’kmaq and WƏlastƏkwiyik (Maliseet) titles and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.

Additionally, we would like to acknowledge that within Nova Scotia, people of African ancestry settled and contributed to the building of many formative developments, particularly in the 18th and 19th centuries; this includes the Black Loyalists who fought on the side of Britain during the American War of Independence, The Maroons, who fought and never surrendered to the Spanish and British in Jamaica and Southern American Black Refugees, who fought on the side of the British during the War of 1812.
